Dear Reader,
I’m so glad you’re here.
In my Substack, I am the Fuchsia Witch, but in this email, in chats, and wherever we connect directly, I’m Carmen.
As a child, I was obsessed with stories. I’d spend hours blowing bubbles, picking one and imagining as many stories as I could inside its tiny world. Then it would pop, and I’d mourn those vanished lives, blow more bubbles, and begin again.
That obsession returned after the birth of my youngest sons, pulling me back into the rhythm of storytelling. This space is where I gather experiences from the quiet magic of my daily life. Some days, you’ll find a thread of personal mythology. Other times, a recipe, a poem, or the steady rhythm of crochet hooks and yarn.
I’m not so concerned with sharing all the facts of my life, but I have an aversion to saying anything untrue. So, yes, this is my real life, sometimes quite literally and other times in metaphor. Writing these stories makes me feel sacred inside my life. The Fuchsia Witch is not a persona but a process, a way of living where the seen and unseen fold together, where the mundane and the mystical are not so different after all.
I’m also writing a novel - a story I’ve been obsessed with for well over a decade. My process has been to spend time writing or reading my own writing every day. This keeps the obsession fresh for me. I send out new posts when the rhythm is right. Sometimes that’s once a week. Sometimes more, or less.
I’d love to hear from you - what resonates, the magic you weave into your own life, the little things that make the ordinary extraordinary. I want this space to be an exchange rather than a monologue. In that spirit, I’d love if you’d send a DM or say hi in the subscriber chat and tell me why you’re reading the Fuchsia Witch, and about a practice that makes you feel sacred in your life.
I hope we keep meeting here, in this space where life and story fold upon each other in well worn creases.
Until next time,
Carmen
